About Korea Tools

Who runs Korea Tools, what the tools do and how their figures are produced and checked.

Korea Tools is an independent website for people visiting Korea and for learners of Korean. It offers a small set of practical tools: a tax refund calculator, a currency converter, a Seoul subway fare calculator, today's air quality, a TOPIK score calculator and a festival calendar. The site is run by MS, an independent developer based in Korea, and has been online since September 2026. It is not operated by, or affiliated with, any government agency or company whose data it uses.

Each tool combines rules published by Korean authorities with data from public sources. Rules such as tax thresholds, fare bands and grade cut-offs are kept in a single place, and every language version reads the same values, so a calculation gives the same result in English, Japanese and Chinese. Where a rule comes from a law or an official notice, the page links to that source and shows when it was last checked.

Figures that change over time, such as exchange rates and air quality, are collected automatically on a schedule. Every data block shows two times: when the data itself last changed and when the source was last checked. If a source stops updating, the page keeps showing the older date rather than hiding it.

Place names, festival names and addresses are shown with their original Korean underneath, because that is what you will need when asking for directions, taking a taxi or searching in a Korean map app.
